A Little Bit About The Maltese As A Companion Dog

March 23rd, 2009

The Maltese was a popular European dog in the 1800’s and was known as Chien de Malte or Bichon Maltaise. It was sometimes called the Shock Dog because of the dog’s shock of white hair. The white coat requires quite a bit of grooming and often once-a-week bathing to maintain the snow-white color.

The Maltese is a delightful pint-size dog. Its stuffed-toy appearance wins the hearts of many and its natural animation makes it appear as a beautiful little mechanical dog. The Maltese is a friendly and loveable pet. More Maltese positive features include charm, an excellent memory and trainability. The Maltese usually does well in obedience training. It is an excellent choice for older children and those who are carefully taught the proper manner in which to handle tiny breeds.

Some writers claim the Maltese’s origin to be around 1500 B.C. Others say the breed as described by ancient historians appeared much different from the petite little dog we know now as the Maltese. It is thought that Phoenician sailors introduced the Maltese ancestors to Malta making it one of the oldest European toy breeds. Because of European references to its early form the Maltese is believed to be of spaniel heritage like the Bichon. In American it is sometimes believed to be more closely related to European terriers. Positive facts place the Maltese in Europe during the 18th century. The first class for Maltese was in London at the Agricultural Hall in 1862. The American Kennel Club accepted its registration in 1888.

In England the tiny dog was well known as a rat catcher. More recently of course the Maltese has the reputation of a lady’s favorite lapdog. The Maltese is known as one of the best therapy dogs due to its loving nature.

The Maltese stands about 9 inches tall and weighs between 4 and 6 pounds. The body is square and solidly constructed set upon straight legs. Characteristic of the breed is its dark eyes, black lid margins, lip margins, and nose rubber. The Maltese carries its long plumbed tail over its back. The coat of a Maltese is snowy white and parts along the spine covering its body with long, flat and silky hair.

Although you may be attracted to a Maltese because of its long, snowy white coat are you able to cope with the reality of keeping it clean and well groomed? If the Maltese is not brushed and combed on a regular basis (several times a week it not on a daily basis) the coat will tangle and mat. Some dogs have been neglected to the extent that they are completely covered in a felted mass that has to be shaved off with a fine clipper next to the skin. Therefore, thorough brushing on a daily basis or at least three times a week is very often the grooming requirement of a Maltese.

As with most toy dogs this size they require minimal exercise. Running around your house or backyard is often enough to keep them in tip top shape.

Probably the best type placement for a Maltese is in a home where they can be pampered and groomed to perfection. They are probably not a good choice as companions to younger children. An older child who is taught how to handle the Maltese is permissible.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Now in 3D Animation

March 20th, 2009

Tim Burton’s classic Christmas/Halloween movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas has quickly become one of the most renowned animated holiday films in movie history and now it has been remade in 3D animation making it even better. Though parts of this holiday movie classic seems a bit too graphic for some of the younger children, this film is a wonderful musical (music and lyrics by Danny Elfman) with a very good message for all of us. The entirety of The Nightmare Before Christmas was created with stop-motion animation, and in view of the fact that it’s centered around the spooky Halloween holiday, it was given an overall dark tone. Jack Skellington (the Pumpkin King), the film’s brooding protagonist, is a living skeleton who walks, talks, and sings beautifully (Danny Elfman sings for Jack). Each and every Halloween, it’s Jack’s duty to organize the holiday of Halloween for the world, but this Halloween, Jack feels like there something missing in his life so instead of preparing for Halloween, Jack searches for a way to fill the emptiness in his life.

During his search of self discovery, Jack finds a strange doorway in a tree which leads him to a wondrous place called Christmas town. It does not take very long for Jack to fall under the spell of goodwill shown by the cheery inhabitants of Christmas town. He soon becomes completely captivated with Christmas town and Christmas. After Jack learns about the legend of Santa Claus, he decides to tell all of his friends in Halloween town about the wonders he has just witnessed. Although the townspeople in Halloween town are hoping to make the next Halloween even more frightening than the last, Jack convinces them to celebrate Christmas instead. With the aid of Lock, Shock and Barrel, three trick-or-treaters who are more tricksters than treaters, Jack kidnaps Santa Claus. From there, everything begins to go completely wrong.

The Nightmare Before Christmas transforms into a fascinating story about being happy with one’s self, and while the chief message is good, there are elements to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas that might be a bit too scary for the younger kids. Some of the movie’s characters, like Sally and her “master” for instance, have a very dark, almost macabre look to them and can be very frightening to some younger children. In addition to her gruesome appearance, Sally, who is the main female character of The Nightmare Before Christmas is sometimes abused by her “master “, which can be a bit upsetting to some children. There is one scene in particular that can upset some children. It’s the scene where the Oogie Boogie Man kidnaps and attempts to do away with Santa Claus. I’m a firm believer in watching questionable movies with smaller children so you can help them tell the difference between good and bad, fantasy and reality.

With that said, there is nothing in The Nightmare Before Christmas that is too far over the top. I found The Nightmare Before Christmas to be a fantastic film that is loaded with holiday spirit, beautiful music and eye-catching graphics. The best is yet to come now that it has been released on BlueRay DVD in 3D animation. I found a place for it on my shelf alongside my other great classic Christmas movies.

Watch the End of the World - a Flash Animation

March 17th, 2009

According to astronomers, the Earth should last for at least five billion more years before the sun becomes a red giant. Due to the sun’s loss of mass the Earth would escape to an orbit at a further distance than its current orbit.

Have a look at this very funny, entertaining flash animation. It’s another person’s view about what the end of the world will be caused by.

Make sure you bookmark the page so you can show someone in the future.

The End of the World

I did not create this animation myself. Jason Windor is the man responsible for creating this wonderful, entertaining flash animation. I have read he is from California and now works on stuff for companies like Nike and ESPN. How did I come across this flash animation? One day while browsing the net using search terms like “best flash animation” and “funny flash animation” this great comedy fell in front of me. To this day, everytime I watch this funny flash animation, I laugh pretty hard.

Animation Character - Heroes Of My Youth

March 13th, 2009

My daily routine when I was a young kid at school was to go home and watch the cartoons before it was time for supper. This was usually Popeye, Yogi Bear, Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner or Top Cat. I would laugh myself silly, and it was the perfect way to relax after a double lesson of math. My favorite animation character then was Top Cat. Inspired by the Sergeant Bilko TV series with Phil Silvers, TC ran his alley and gang of alley cats with cunning and style. I knew I would never be as cool as him.

I have retained a fondness for the animation character heroes of my youth, and love to watch the replays. Cartoons, on TV and in movies, are still my favorite things to watch. I’m sure I’m not alone in this, and I think adults gain as much enjoyment from Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles as children do. In fact, adults probably appreciate them more, because the best story involving an animation character works on two levels. There is the story which appeals to the kids and there are the inside adult jokes going on too.

The animation character has evolved over the years, from the first monochrome squiggles to the computer produced images we see today. The Walt Disney Studio made the major contribution in the early years, creating the iconic animation character of Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Goofy and Donald Duck. Walt Disney had a flair for knowing what the audience wanted and he wasn’t afraid to try new things. The movie industry was skeptical when Disney released the first full-length feature film for the animation character, with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was a success and the studio went from strength to strength, ending up with an empire of production companies and nine theme parks.

There is a huge industry surrounding the animation character, with merchandise and DVD’s. Just as there are rows upon rows of action figures of Buzz Lightyear in the film of Toy Story, so there are real figures of Buzz Lightyear in the shops. The Disney theme parks give fans the chance to see their favorite animation character up close and personal. Children are thrilled when Mickey Mouse walks right up to them and says hello.

The biggest television animated hit of recent times is of course, The Simpson’s. This dysfunctional family has captured the imagination of fans around the world. Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and baby Maggie are well thought out examples of an animation character, appealing to adults and children alike. The kids like the antics of Bart and can sympathize with Lisa. There are lots of cultural references in the programme for the adults to enjoy, and guests queue up to be immortalized as an animation character. They include Paul McCartney, Sonic Youth and The Who.

Playing The Game: The Future Of Animation And Game Design

March 11th, 2009

The popularity of video games is a staple of our culture and appears as though it’s going to stay. From the different genres of video games to the complex stories and character developments, video games have become an entity that spans generations of gamers. For many, it is an escape into a new world of fantasy and adventure. As a result, it is no wonder why so many high school and college graduates are going into the field of animation and game design. Several colleges offer courses and programs related to learning how to create video games. The video game industry is a growing, multi-billion dollar field and many of the college graduates want to get their hands on the controller.

The increasing demand for more games with better stories and more life-like graphics has been on the minds of serious gamers for years. There is no satisfying the serious gamer because the graphics continue to get better every year and the stories tend to get more interesting, too. Therefore, the video game players expect more every time. This is why colleges are now offering courses in animation and game design. They see the prevalence of video games in our culture and the people who want to build and design these games.

But the programs and courses that deal with animation and game design are not only about drawing and how to create a video game. Creating a game that is both playable and sellable is not an easy task. Basic classes for those who begin in animation and game design deal with topics such as artistic terminology and artistic theory. From there, a student can expect to enter classes in which they generate ideas and concepts for their particular video game. There is also an additional course dealing with presenting your idea to a video game company.

If you decide to go into the field of animation and game design, you can also expect to take some more educationally geared courses. There are some that deal with the history of video games along with other courses that teach the demographic makeup of who plays certain games. You may also be required to do reviews of games and learn about the nuances of the different gaming genres. But success in these classes will inevitably lead to more enticing topics such as artificial intelligence and prototyping your game. For the avid video game player, taking these courses may make the game-playing experience a more interesting one as he thinks about the intricacies of every move made on the screen. For others, however, these courses may serve to only ruin the mystery that they have associated with playing video games.

The field of animation and game design is not, as the name implies, all fun and games. In fact, it is the opposite. There is a lot of hard work that goes into designing these elaborate games. From conception to the store shelves, many experts have contributed something to its success or, consequently, its failure. Learning the techniques of being a successful video game creator is much like learning how to play an instrument. You have to learn note by note, then chord by chord before you can even think about learning how to play a song. That is the same thing with this lucrative field. You can be a gamer your entire life but, other than the occasional game idea, your gaming skills are irrelevant when it comes to creating a game. By completing the animation and game design program, you will see and appreciate where the growth and direction of the animation and gaming industry is headed.

Imagination Comes To Life With A Computer Animation Degree

March 8th, 2009

Do you often find your imagination running wild? If you are visually and intellectually creative in ways that tend to set you apart from others, rest assured that you aren’t alone. Thousands of wannabe game creators are honing their graphic skills and storyline writing abilities with a computer animation degree.

The world of role playing and video games has grown at a rapid rate, leaving plenty of room for innovative minds to enter the field of creating characters, plotlines, and designs that can sell successfully in the mainstream market. Video games have surpassed the popularity of books and movies, proving that it is a volatile industry constantly in need of fresh minds and ideas. The numbers keep rising as games gain popularity on the Internet as well as more traditional modes such as Nintendo and Playstation.

So while so many are spending their money on videogames, where are the profits going? A portion of the revenue is definitely going into the pockets of those with a computer animation degree, a cutting edge credential that more than gets your foot in the door when it comes to this fun and modern industry.

From conceptual art to advanced computer commands, students learn everything that they need to know in order to be a successful earner in the gaming world. It’s not just about role playing or virtual video games either. A computer animation degree is vital to anyone who wants to work in the entertainment industry as an artist.

Perhaps the best example of this is Pixar, one of the front-running companies in the race for the best and most successful feature length animation. Originally picked up and supported by Disney, Pixar is now a powerhouse in its own right, creating classic movies with characters and storylines that will be cherished by generations to come. Just as Walt Disney wowed the world with Snow White due to its innovative art at the time, Pixar just as effectively wins over our hearts with lovable computerized creations such as Nemo and Woody.

One downfall to pursuing a computer animation degree is that you are definitely walking out on a limb. Jobs are limited and the amount of student interest is only growing, leaving companies with no other choice than to select those with not only education but with talent as well. Just as a painter must be excellent in order to have his artwork sold, a computer graphics designer must be exceptional in the skills of his craft in order to work with the top dogs.

How can you put yourself in the front running for your dream job? The first trick is to completely empty your brain. Work hard to jot down notes on any character or plot that you can think of, and look into online forums where you can bounce your ideas off of other students and aspiring computer graphics animators. The candid criticism combined with the safe anonymity of the web will help you to improve upon what has potential while discarding what doesn’t. This will help you to refine your idea of what the industry wants before you risk rejection from the actual professional industry.

Of course, getting a computer animation degree will help you as well. Education is the key to many doors no matter what your industry, and this is especially true in animation as it is one of the easiest and most thorough ways to learn.

A job as an animator can be exciting and rewarding, not to mention that it can also pay the bills. So take the first step by researching and exploring what it takes to be successful in the industry and then get serious. The business of animation is waiting for your innovative ideas and perspective. Consider beginning your journey toward a computer animation degree today.

Much goes into the world of animation and game design. Before any one game sees the light of day, issues of concept and design must be hammered out as well as copyright laws, demographics, funding and management issues. Those who love video games and are interested in game design can be put to the test when they find gaming skills have very little to do with the design of games in general. However, it is still a draw for bright minds that have an instinct for knowing what makes a game great.

Learning what makes a game playable versus sellable is a formula for success. To do this, attaining a strong foundation in the knowledge of video games; starting with their history and moving through other topics such as artistic terminology and theory, video game genres and some other aspects is what allows one to build up to concepts, animation and modeling and then on up to prototypes.

Among other things, strong fundamentals in design, content creation, story development and project management must also be learned. Even classes in entertainment law are a must so that finding out about copyright laws that protect a person’s work do not come about the hard way. Creating a portfolio and learning other marketing skills for the purpose of generating a presence as a legitimate professional is also an important aspect of animation and game design.

When the time comes to finally design the game, all the learned elements and concepts will be combined with knowledge of 3D modeling and animation, CAD drawing and a host of other types of technology and software. In the end, the collaboration on the parts of many will result in a product that must then be successfully packaged and marketed to the public.

Those who earn their degree in animation and game design will be able to not only design the games that people want but also be able to see which way the winds of the industry are blowing. Although this multi-billion dollar industry only seems to be growing stronger, there are a number of outside elements that can have quite an affect on the success of certain video games. A talented individual in this field always has the ability to stay flexible and meet challenges effectively.

As technology grows and changes so will animation and game design, meaning there will always be a demand for professionals in this field. Japanese Animation

February 26th, 2009

Animation does not have any boundaries that can be seen. These boundaries are present in the minds of the creators. Each of the creators of animation will have their own styles of drawing their creations. Some of these will be the hugely popular Japanese animation series and movies.

In each of these programs you will see how people and animals of fantastical looks deal with life in different situations. These situations will be different based on the medium which is used to portray these Japanese animation scenes. You will see that the forms of animation are different for cartoons, movies and even for video games.

While many of elements of Japanese animation are somewhat similar to that of other countries, the culture and social behavior of Japan is seen quite clearly. There are many areas of life that can be seen being explored in the realms of animation. While some of the animation stories are taken from anime series and Manga comics there are others which come straight from the creative minds of the movie making team.

In these the storylines you will see that the characters acting in ways that show how they feel about situations that happen around them. While some of the reactions are comical there are others that will make you empathize with the characters.

The mark of a successful Japanese animation can then be said to be an animation that draws you deep inside. You will understand how the beauty that is found in life can be used to showcase the feelings and scenes are occurring around the central characters. While these characters are of primary importance there are many other aspects of these Japanese animation movies and shows that you will enjoy seeing.

The main item that you will notice in Japanese animation is the exaggerated feelings which are displayed to us via large teardrop shapes near the eyes. Panic can be shown as arms frantically waving around and the mouth open wide in terror – but not the scary kind – and you feel like laughing at what is happening to these characters.

One good example of seeing this type of behavior will be that of Sailor Moon. Here you will find the entire range of details and action sequences which make Japanese animation what it really is.

By looking closely at these different Japanese animation programs you will see how the similarities of life are portrayed within these shows. Some of the sensitive issues that you will see happening around us can be explained by Japanese animation.
